Bill passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Born in Mart, Texas, on Nov. 24, 1922 to Wyman and Alma Duffel. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lynnette Persson Duffel, his sons, Stephen (Sharon), David (Kathi), Joe (Kathleen), and eight grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his oldest son, William Allen Duffel. In 1943 Bill joined the US Army Air Corps. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, and served as a pilot/navigator in the South Pacific flying over 400 missions in B25 airplanes. For a short time after the war ended he continued his Air Force service in occupied Japan. In 1945 Bill enrolled in the University of California, Berkeley, where he met his wife, Lynnette Persson. He graduated with honors in 1948 after which he started hid 30 year career with the Prudential Insurance Company in San Francisco. He soon became Vice-President and Director of Agencies for the Western United States. He later chose to manage his own Prudential agency in Sacramento. Bill was a long-time member of Del Paso Country Club, the Sutter Club, the Grandfathers' Club, and the Cal Grid Club of Sacramento. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity at UC Berkeley. He was an avid supporter and contributor to the UC Berkeley athletic program and a member of the UC Alumni Association and Bear Backers. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 6 from 3-6pm at W.F. Gormley & Sons Chapel, 2015 Capitol Ave. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 7, 10:00AM, at St. Mark's Methodist Church, 2391 St. Marks Way, Sac., CA 95864. Interment with honors followed at East Lawn Sierra Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Assistance League of Sacramento, PO Box 60874, Sacramento, CA 95860 or the charity of your choice.
