Mary Eileen Brannigan Rsm

Sister Mary Eileen died at Mercy San Juan Medical Center, Carmichael, CA on Sunday, April 6, 2014. Born in San Francisco on September 28, 1922 to the late Richard and Mary Brannigan, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in Auburn in 1940 and professed final vows in 1946. Musically gifted, she got her undergraduate degree in music from Mount Saint Mary's College, Los Angeles, did graduate work in music at Notre Dame University and received a special secondary music credential from the State of California in 1964. She taught music for forty five years in elementary schools throughout the Diocese of Sacramento and at Mercy High School, Carmichael and Bishop Manogue in Sacramento. After retiring she continued to develop her creativity by becoming a custom knitter specializing in Christmas ornaments and toys. She is survived by her sister, Therese (Pat) Mulhall, their family, a wide circle of friends and her religious community. She is predeceased by her sister, Sister Mary Christopher, RSM. A Vigil Service was held on Thursday, April 10 at 6:30 pm at Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, 535 Sacramento Street, Auburn. Mass of Christian burial was said on Friday, April 11 at 11:00 am.
