David J. Fox

David John Fox left us on May 14, 2014 following an unexpected choking accident. David was born 70 years ago in Sacramento and was raised in the Woodlake area where he made many life long friendships. He was a kind man with a great sense of humor and enjoyed every day of his life. David was preceded in death by his parents, John & Florrie Fox, who both came to Sacramento from Ireland to chase the American Dream. He never forgot his Irish roots and traveled to Ireland to visit his relatives and show his son where his parents were born. David is survived by his wife, Katharine Anderson Fox, who he met while sailing in San Francisco 39 years ago and his son Adam John Fox, who was his constant companion and best buddy. David's other family members included his brother, Robert Fox (wife Trudy); nephew, Bobby Fox (wife Aimee); sister-in-law, Robin Hayes (husband Chauncey) and his brother-in-law, Peter Anderson. Also surrounding David with much love and laughter were his nieces and nephew, Emily, Jennifer & Christopher as well as great-nieces and nephews, Collin, Sean, Emma, Lola & Liam. Preceding David in death was his very special niece, Susan Fox McGrath, who passed away in 2012. She is survived by her husband, Dylan and we know David and Susie are now together once again. David was born August 13, 1943 in Sacramento and while attending Sacramento City College he started working for The Sacramento Bee and then continued his education at Sacramento State College. His first position was in the mailroom and his career at the Bee continued for the next 44 years. He moved into the Production Department and then in 1978 was chosen as one of the team members to go to Anchorage, Alaska for 3 months with McClatchy to setup the newly purchased Anchorage Daily News in their own facility. From this point he became Systems Manager at the Bee and helped the migration into the world of Computers. Next he took over the Purchasing Department and finally ended his career in charge of Administrative Services including Facilities & Building Management. He thoroughly enjoyed working at the Bee and made many valued friendships. David enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He was fortunate to have many loving friends with whom he shared wonderful memories including traveling, dining, sailing and playing golf on a peaceful sunny afternoon. David was an active person who never wanted to sit still. He remodeled his house, skied Whistler Mountain and sailed from Hawaii to San Francisco. A special place for the Fox Family was the yearly visit to Santa Cruz and Seabright Beach. For the past 40 years, David and his family would meet their beach friends for the annual get away of relaxing, golfing, shopping and enjoying Santa Cruz restaurants as well as long afternoons on the beach. There are now 4 generations of families who continue to meet in Santa Cruz every August. David believed in giving back to his community and was a member of the Rotary Club of Sacramento and served on the boards of the Sacramento Receiving Home, Sacramento Symphony Association and Junior Achievement. He belonged to the San Francisco Yachting Association, Northridge Country Club and Fremont Presbyterian Church. David will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. At a later date a Celebration of his life will be held along with a Memorial Golf Tournament. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Michael J.
