Louis J. Conti

Louis passed on peacefully in Sacramento, August 14, 2014 at age 98. Beloved and devoted husband of 68 years to the late Nonie (Betty J. Conti), loving father of Stephen L. Conti and wife, Carol Ann, and Rosemarie Bertini and husband Rino. Loving brother of his late sister, Gladys Colabella, brother-in-law of the late Alfred Marogna and wife Vera Marogna, preciously cherished Nonno (Grandfather) of Luigi Bertini and Luca Bertini, also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Lou was born in Colma, California on March 8, 1916, to the late Agostino and Maria Conti. He was affectionately known by all as Nonno. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Nonno was a San Francisco Forty Niner Faithful and was celebrated by the organization as their Faithful Fan of the week on October 14, 2012 at Candlestick Park. Lou was a World War II Veteran participating in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign and received the Campaign and Good Conduct Medals as well as the Victory Medal for his service. In 1997, he finally received the Jubilee Medal from the French Government in recognition for the part he played in the liberation of France during World War II. His battles and campaigns included The Landing of Normandy on Utah Beach, The Rhineland, The Ardennes (The Bulge), Central Europe and The Go 40 WD 45. After returning from Service, he worked 30 years for Bell Distributing Company as a beer distributor. Lou's family and friends meant the world to him. He had a one of a kind spirit with a heart large enough to leave everyone he interacted with feeling special. Friends were welcomed for visitation at W.F. Gormley & Sons Chapel, 2015 Capitol Avenue, Friday from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM, and were invited to attend a Rosary Service at the Chapel at 6:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered for the repose of his soul at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1333 58th Street, Saturday at 11:00 AM. Interment followed at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, 8880 Rio San Diego Drive, Suite #900, San Diego, CA 92108.
