"Frank" was born in Burnstad, North Dakota on March 24, 1922 and died on Wednesday, Sept. 17th at the age of 92. He was a resident of Sacramento, CA. since 1944. Beloved husband of Rosalie and loving father of, Thomas (Kathy), Collette Gau-Cunningham (James), Steven, Patrice Gau-Johnson (John-deceased), and David (Terry). Loving grandfather to 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Frank was a World War II Veteran serving in the Army-Air Force as a tail-gunner in a B-24 bomber. He flew 50 missions out of N. Africa and Italy. Bombing runs included the Ploesti Oil Fields and the Normandy invasion. He was nominated for the Distinguished Flying Cross. After returning from the war, Frank met Rosalie Driscoll at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sacramento. They were later married on Feb. 15, 1947. They were married for 67 years. Frank worked for the State of CA Division of Highways for 38 years. He was a construction engineer in charge of numerous freeway projects in the Sacramento area, notably the closing link of I-5 connecting Canada to Mexico. Frank enjoyed working on projects and could fix almost anything. He also like to play golf where he displayed his exceptional putting skills. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Viewing took place from 4-5 pm on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Broadway in Sacramento. A recitation of the Rosary followed at 5:00 pm. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, September 22, 2014 also at Immaculate Conception.
