Marie Alice Steppan

Marie passed away at the age of 97 in Sacramento on November 6, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Carl Heft Steppan. She was the loving mother to Lynda Hughes and Carl Steppan Jr. (deceased). Mother-in-law to Butch Hughes and Linda B. Steppan. Daughter of the late Thomas and Hallie Boyd and sister of the late Thomas Boyd Jr. Cherished grandmother of Jay and Timothy Hughes and Elisa Vittorio and great-grandmother who was affectionally called GiGi by Tanner, Zach, Hayden, Adam and Colson Hughes. A native of Stockton, CA. and a resident of Sacramento for 82 years. A member of First United Methodist Church, California Retired Teachers Association and Daughters of the Nile. She loved oil painting and music. Marie graduated from Sacramento High School and San Jose State University. She taught in Sacramento in the city grammar schools and became the neighborhood piano teacher. Friends were invited for viewing on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 from 9am until 10:30am at W.F. Gormley & Sons Chapel, 2015 Capitol Ave. The Funeral Service was held at 10:30am at W.F. Gormley & Sons. Interment followed at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4300 Folsom Boulevard, Sacramento. Memorials may be made in her name to Sutter Hospice.
