RANEY, James Sheldon Dec. 27, 1931 - Nov. 24, 2014 Jim was a native of Sacramento who passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Noreen, and his two sons: John of San Francisco and James of Sacramento; and his beloved dog Doodle. Born to Dr. Arthur Sheldon Raney and Sue Donnelly Raney. The brother of the late Arthur Raney. Jim grew up an avid hunter, fly fisherman and sports fan. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of Troop 1. He graduated from Sacramento High School and the University of California, Berkeley where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Jim achieved noteworthy success as a commercial real estate broker for Coldwell Banker in San Francisco and Sacramento where he worked for more than 25 years. He continued to work in real estate throughout his life. Jim's life revolved around his deep love his wife Noreen and his two sons. He was passionate about his family, duck hunting and Cal athletics. He duck hunted nearly his entire life and traveled around the country with the Cal football team until the last months of his life. He loved the Seabright neighborhood of Santa Cruz and Homewood in Lake Tahoe where he spent many summers growing up and with his family as an adult. Jim loved to travel with his sons to see the California Golden Bears play football. He also was an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants. He will always be missed and never forgotten by those who knew him. The Raney Family would like to give special thanks to Jim's caregiver, Morry, whose kindness will never be forgotten. A private service will be held at his request.
