CAPLIS, Mary Catherine 12/15/15 - 1/19/15 Mary C. Caplis, long time resident of Sacramento went home to be with the Lord, our God on January 19, 2015 after a long life of 99 years. Born in Missoula, MT on Dec. 15, 1915 to parents John James and Mariel (Hoffman) Caplis, one of 5 children. She was the last surviving sibling of her family. She lived 62 years of her life in the Sacramento region. Her father was of Irish descent and her mother emigrated from Germany when she was about 16 years old. Her mother met her father in Missoula, MT while working at a rooming house. Her family, brothers and sisters were very loyal to one another. Mary was about 6 years old when the family moved to Los Angeles. Her father came to California 1 year later after he finished his Montana legislative term in Helena. After her mother passed at age 73 on March 29, 1950, she, her sister Anna Mae and father moved to East Sacramento where Mary lived until 1964. After 1964 they moved to Land Park area where she was a longtime parishioner of St. Anthony Church in the Pocket/Greenhaven area. Mary recently relocated on Nov. 9, 2013 to the East Sacramento area, until she passed away due to a failing heart. Her mind and memory were as sharp as ever, even up to her 99th Birthday. Her loyal faith in God and her religious conviction kept her living a long fulfilling, loving life. She was very intelligent and it was fun to carry on long conversations with her about politics, religion, current events and her fascinating stories of her life. For most of Mary's adult life, she worked for Setzer Forest Products for 30 years, where she began her career as a clerk and eventually was promoted to their first female sales manager. Mary later became President of Western Wooden Box Association. After retirement, she enjoyed many years traveling, cooking, fishing and golfing. Mary made the most of her life, always with a positive attititude, caring heart and empathy for others. There will never be another Mary Caplis. She will be fondly missed by all that knew her. Her life on earth is now complete. She is survived by her nephew James P. Caplis of El Dorado Hills and 7 nieces and nephews and 21 great nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a Rosary on Friday January 23 at 7pm at W.F. Gormley and Son Funeral Home, 2015 Capital Ave, Sacramento, CA. A Mass celebrating Mary's life will be held on Saturday January 24 at 10am at St. Anthony Parish, 660 Florin Rd, Sacramento.
