Irene Miriam Raymond 4/19/26 - 4/18/15 Long- time East Sacramento resident Irene Raymond passed away Saturday, April 18th, one day shy of her 89th Birthday. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of more than 50 years Robert, daughter Mary, sister Helen Veress- Mitchell and brother Donald Veress. Irene is survived by nieces Janice and Joyce Mitchell (Dr. Eric Reninga), Kimberly Forte, Lisa Bodine, Barbara Raymond of Aiden, California, nephews, Eric and Don Veress, the Very Reverend Walter Raymond of Monaco, and granddaughters Josolyn Sexton and Debra Watson of Arkansas and Heather DeMers from Lodi, California, great grandsons Baley and William Sexton and Jax DeMers. Irene attended C.K McClatchy High School, earned a BA from San Jose State and teaching credential from UC Santa Barbara. She taught elementary school for 10 years before embracing her new role as mother to Mary. Irene and her loving husband had a passion for travelling. They ventured around the world and were infatuated with Paris and the South of France. On the 4th of July, and Halloween, Irene celebrated ghosts and goblins and the 41st Street Parade . She handed out candy each year to hundreds of costumed children as they rang her doorbell, always inviting grand nephew Loren Roberts (Val), grand nieces Juliet Roberts and Jenny Woods (Greg Woods) and great grand nephews Kaleb (10), Levi (7), and Justus Ellington (2). Irene was born in Sacramento and enjoyed socializing with friends, family, and neighbors. Avid tennis players, she and Bob joined Sutter Lawn Tennis Club early on in their marriage. Irene remained a member until she died. This year, she became an honorary member of the club. Sutter Lawn has been flying their flag at half mast in her honor. Funeral services performed by the Very Reverend Walter Raymond Monday, May 4th, 1 PM at East Lawn Cemetery in the small chapel.
