Celeste E. Nevis

Celeste passed away peacefully at her home on May 13, 2015 at the age of 90. Born March 30,1925 to August and Josephine Cabral in Clarksburg, CA. She was raised in the Modesto area where she attended Modesto High School and Modesto Junior College. Celeste married the late Donald Nevis (d. 1974) in 1947 and settled in Sacramento where she resided for over 68 years. Celeste is survived by daughter Nancy Abreu (Jerry) and son Don (Tricia) along with her devoted and loving companion of 18 years, Jimmy Klewer. She is also survived by grandchildren Matthew Abreu, Andy Nevis (Laura) and Brian Nevis, sister-in-law Laura Cabral and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her siblings Gloria, Tony, Mario and John. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and companion, Celeste devoted over 4500 volunteer hours to the Mercy General Hospital Guild and served as its President in 1985 and 1986. She also was a member of the Comstock Club serving a term as President helping to bring high profile speakers to Sacramento. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to caregiver Marilynn Martin along with the staff of California Care Givers, Cheryl Nicponski, RN, Sister Kathleen Horgan and staff of Mercy General Hospital, Mercy Hospice, Dr. Jane Tsai and Angel Roces PA for all the dedication, support and comfort they provided over the last few months. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 on May 26, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3159 Land Park Drive, Sacramento with reception at the Church Hall. Internment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Celeste's memory to Mercy Hospital Guild, 842 41st Street, Sacramento, CA 95819, or your favorite charity.
