Lucy grew up on the family farm just outside of Jamestown, North Dakota where they milked cows. Lucy (as she was called by her family and friends) was one of 14 children. She graduated from St. John's Academy in 1955. After high school, she worked at a few banks as a receptionist and secretary; she worked at some restaurants and also worked on taxes. She loved to travel and made several trips to and from North Dakota and California and she visited Texas too. She called California home as she lived most of her adult life in the Sacramento area. Lucy also liked to dance, bowl, read and shop. She entered Sutter Oaks Nursing Home in Sacramento in 2005 after a stroke.
