Regina M. (Krycki) Kuzmich was born in Sacramento's Oak Park neighborhood on April 9, 1913 to parents Michael and Josephine Krycki, immigrants from Poland. She joined the Lord on August 14, 2015 at the age of 102, at home and surrounded by her family. Regina (Jean) had many fond memories of growing up in Oak Park and was extremely proud of her Polish heritage. She graduated from Bret Harte Elementary, Stanford Middle and Sacramento High School and attended Sacramento City College. Jean and her older sister, Lucille, had an active social life with a special group of friends, attending dances and football games and taking trips to the beaches and the Sierras. Jean met the love of her life, Michael Dominic Kuzmich (whom she affectionately called Mickey), through this social group and they married in June of 1937. Jean and Michael raised their three sons, Paul, Tom and Joe in East Sacramento, in a home they purchased shortly thereafter. After Michael's passing in 2000, Jean continued to live in the family home. They were faithful members of Sacred Heart Parish, sending the boys to the parish school. Jean started her professional career working at the phone company and, at the urging of her sister, later became a State employee. She enjoyed a long career with the Board of Medical Examiners, where she issued thousands of licenses to doctors. Jean loved to entertain at her home and was a proud member of the "Chatterstitchers," a group of girlfriends who got together to chat and knit for more than 50 years. After raising and educating their sons, Jean and Mickey retired and spent the next 20 years traveling to many parts of the U.S. and abroad. In their later years they decided to build a cabin near Mt. Ralston as a legacy to their grandchildren, on the same property where their family had enjoyed many vacations over the years. Jean adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved entertaining them with songs and poems from her childhood. Because of her deep faith, Mom leaves this earth knowing that her three sons and their wives - Jeanne, Nini and Joan; her nine grandchildren - Paul Jr. (Shannon), Kristine (Steve), John (Gayle), Kevin, Colleen (Tom), Mark (Alix), Mike (Amy), Megan (Tara), and Peter (Shayne); and her 14 great-grandchildren are in God's care. Jean also leaves behind her beloved sister Barbara Reed and sister-in-law Kathryn Eres, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Nettie and Lucille (McGuire), her sister-in-law Louise Cato, and her husband Michael Kuzmich. The family is most grateful to Mom's caregivers, especially Brenda, Dee and Mel; they were truly angels of mercy and love. At Mom's wishes, services will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 3263 1st Ave, Sacramento, where she received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, First Communion and Matrimony. Her funeral Mass will be held there on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Regina's memory to Maryhouse or Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services.
