January 26, 1939 — August 10, 2015

Gilbert A. Mitchell Sr.

Known to all his family and friends as "Gib" was born on January 26th, 1939 in Evansville, Indiana. He is survived by his wife Jill, with whom he shared 27 wonderful years, his children Suzie, Kathy and Andy, his two step-daughters, Melissa and Kym, and 10 grandchildren. Gib graduated from the California State University at Long Beach and later received his license in architecture. He started his career at the Irvine Co., which later led him to venture out and start his own company. Eventually he relocated to Sacramento in the late 70's. Gib worked on several major contracts here in Sacramento and later joined the State of California as a Senior Architect. Gib had many hobbies. He had a passion for sailing and also spent happy hours playing golf with his many friends including "the Wild Bunch". He loved traveling and enjoyed many trips overseas and throughout the US. However, his main love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren of whom he was extremely proud. After he retired, Gib moved to East Ranch where he served on the Association Board of Directors and used his many skills assisting with building and facilities projects. Gib gave his time generously to everyone around him but was unaware of the hearts he touched. He will be remembered by all for his genuine passion for life and his unique sense of humor. A celebration of Gib's life will be held on September 13th, 2015 at The Nepenthe Club House, 1131 Commons Drive, Sacramento, CA, 95825 from 3pm to 6pm.
