A graveside service will take place on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 11am at the Davis Cemetery, 820 Pole Line Rd., Davis, California.
Thank you all for gathering here today to honor Dr. Joyce Remsen Gee, a devoted wife, caring and supportive stepmother and grandmother, respected scientist and professional colleague and generous philanthropic donor. Everyone of you here today gave some meaning and purpose to Joyce's life as she did to yours.
With her brilliant and disciplined mind, Joyce's academic achievements included a Bachelor's Degree from Douglass College, a Masters Degree from Cornell, a Doctoral Degree from Rutgers and Fellowship from Princeton University.
Embodied in Joyce along with her keen scientific mind, however, was a kind, empathetic, loyal and loving heart which in her shy but steadfast way she enveloped all of us.
As a devoted wife and companion, Joyce have to our father, Dr. Douglas Remsen, some of his happiest years despite a 30 year plus difference in their ages. And to Mr. William Gee. the father of Nikki and Gee-Gee, Joyce provided years of adventurous travel and warm companionship. Both of our families are deeply indebted to Joyce for the unselfish, tireless, exhausting care she gave to both of our fathers when they grew ill and incapacitated.
Joyce was also a respected colleague and associate in her work in the field of Environmental Protection and your presence here today attests to your regard and affection for Dr. Joyce. We thank you for being here to honor her.
While Joyce may have been modest and some might say even frugal when it came to self-indulgence, she was wholly unselfish when it came to gifting her families in time of need and in her donations to worthwhile causes. As an example, 1,600 Rutgers Future Scholars from grade 7 to juniors in college, send their appreciation and love to Dr. Joyce for her extraordinary support and faith in them.
If you believe in Angels, or at least in exceptional human beings, then you know we had one among us in the sweet, self-effacing, gentle, loyal, wise, caring, and loving Joyce who will now reside in the best part of our memories and, maybe perhaps, we will all be reunited in some future heaven.
Thank you all for being here today to honor Joyce.
