Katherine Mary Kelly Creeggan
Born in Sacramento to Eva and Thomas Kelly on September 7, 1923. Passed away on January 20, 2016, at the age of 92. Preceded in death by her first husband, Adolph C. “Zeke” Zastera, a pilot killed in World War II, granddaughter Haley Greenberg, and William J. Creeggan, her husband of 63 years. Attended St. Francis Grammar School, Sacramento High School, and Sacramento Jr. College. Survived by sons Richard (Cathy) Creeggan, William (Cindy) Creeggan, daughter Carol (Marty) Greenberg; grandchildren David (Danielle), Michael (Becky), Kelly (Mark), Hillary, and Sam; great grandchildren Alexander, Benjamin, Chase and Madeline; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
While married during World War II, she followed her husband around the country as he completed his pilot’s training. She mischievously told the story of being sneaked aboard a B-29 for a joy ride while she was pregnant with their son.
Kathy was always enthusiastic about what others were doing and interested in what they had to say. She was an excellent bridge player and a constant reader who completed both the daily crossword and cryptoquote until the week before she passed.
A strong woman, she passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Kathy was devoted to her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, February 5, at 10AM at Sacred Heart Church, 1040 39th St, Sacramento, CA 95816. A reception celebrating her life will follow at Sutter Lawn Tennis Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Christian Brothers High School, Sacred Heart Parish School or the charity of your choice.
