Russell Suraci

December 29, 1934 — January 31, 2016

Russell Suraci

With loving family by his side, Russell passed peacefully at home on January 31st, 2016 at the age of 81.
Rosario Suraci was born on December 29, 1934 in Sacramento to Bruno and Mary Suraci (pre deceased). Always proud of their Italian and Sicilian heritage yet equally proud to be Americans, he became known as Russell from school age on.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Joanne Sherwood Suraci, his brother, Nick Fabiano, and sisters, Catharine Fabiano and Annie Suraci.
Russell was deeply loved and survived by sons, Don (Jo Ann) Buno, and Larry (Debbie Hogan) Buno, his daughter, Rene' Antoinette (James) Cook, 3 grandchildren, Nick Buno, Will Buno and Alyssa Cook, 7 great-grandchildren, and his very devoted girlfriend Liz Tracy, who has become part of our family. Russell treasured them all, including his nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws-the Suraci's, Fabiano's, Carollo's, Casillas' and Sherwood's-his first friend in life, Mickey, his school gang, and his many, many wonderful friends from every step in his life.
Russell proudly served in the US Navy, worked at Aerojet, and after retiring from Sears, became everyone's favorite deliveryman for Safeway Pharmacy. He was a proud member of both the Dante Club and Marsala Lodge.
Russell will be remembered as a sweet man with that cute smile who enthusiastically shared his passions thru golfing and bowling tips, trips to Thunder Valley, his prized collection of 78's, rides in the Pink Panther, and dancing, dancing, dancing.
Even through illness, he kept his sense of humor, his charm, and his ability to make others feel special. As anyone who visited knows, our loyal dog Lulu held watch over him and now, she is missing her buddy. We know how she feels.
A Vigil service was held on Thursday, February 11th at 7:30 p.m. at W.F. Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capital Ave in Sacramento.
A Celebration of Life was held noon-3 p.m. on Friday, February 12th at the Newman Center, 5900 Newman Court near Sac State.
Remembrances in lieu of flowers can be made to Sutter Care at Home (Hospice), the Sacramento SPCA or a charity of your choice.
