William Owen Ellis Sr.
August 15, 1923-March 29, 2016
Bill Ellis entered into eternal peace on March 29, 2016. A longtime Sacramento resident, he is survived by his five children, Susan (Carl Grath), Kathleen, Wendy (Rick Barbaria), Mary, and Bill Jr. (Maureen); thirteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Patricia, his cherished wife of 61 years, son Bobby, and two great grandchildren predeceased him. Born in Denver Colorado, he is also survived by his sister Mary Moore, of Scottsdale, Arizona.
Bill was a proud man, proud to serve his country in the U.S. Navy, proud to be a graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder, and most proud to have met and married Patricia Ahern, and then to be blessed with six children.
His professional passion was retailing, spending nearly 40 years at Weinstock’s in Sacramento, and retiring as a vice president for the company. One of the highlights of his career was being named Store Manager in 1961 at the new Weinstock, Lubin, Country Club Plaza Store. As he cut the ribbon at the opening of their first branch store, a revolution in retail shopping began in suburban Sacramento.
In recent years, he found great happiness and joy in his Eskaton Village Carmichael community of friends and staff.
At his request, private services were held, arranged by W.F. Gormley & Sons
