1950 – 2016

Barbara Jane Hudson, 66, passed away peacefully at her home of natural causes on April 4, 2016.  Barbara was born on February 5, 1950 to George and Gertrude Hudson and was a lifelong resident of Sacramento.   She graduated from Bishop Manogue High School in 1968 and went on to earn a degree from California State University at Sacramento.  Barbara’s service to the State of California spanned approximately 40 years, and she retired from the Department of Personnel Management in 2013.  Over the years, she enjoyed traveling with her dearly beloved Aunt Ann to Europe and Hawaii.  She especially treasured her trips to Slovenia where she was able to visit cousins there and cultivate ties to her Slovenian heritage.  In recent years, she enjoyed special relationships with cousins, Cathy Maffei and Rita Moore, in Sacramento.   She was very active in the Saratoga Town Homes Homeowners Association and also was a member of the California State Retirees Association.  One of her favorite things to do was to get-together with her group of longtime girlfriends from her elementary and high school days. 

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, aunts and uncles, and is survived by her sister Anna Martin of Meridian, ID; brother-in-law Larry Martin, nieces Barbara (Aaron) Coleman and Jackie (Kevin) Moran; nephews Steve (Kara) Martin and David (Sarah) Martin, and numerous cousins, great-nephews and great-nieces.  She was a loving and devoted caregiver to her Mother and Aunt Ann in their later years, and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church followed by a reception in the church hall.  Private burial will be held later in the afternoon at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s name to Sutter Hospice.  Arrangements made by W.F.
