Thomas Peter Dewinter

Thomas Peter DeWinter, age 63 of Jersey City, New Jersey passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in his own home on April 8, 2016. Thomas is reunited with his pre-deceased wife, Joyce DeWinter, parents Edward and Dawn DeWinter, and brother Edward DeWinter.  Thomas is survived by his children Trevor DeWinter and Lisa DeWinter-Sunahara. He was a loving grandfather, uncle and great uncle to his many grand-children, nieces and nephews.

Thomas proudly served in the Coast Guard for 21 years receiving 16 awards and honors including, National Defense Service Medals (2), Coast Guard Good Conduct Medals (6), Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbons (3), Unit Commendation Ribbons (2), Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbons (2) and Bicentennial Unit Commendation Ribbon. He then went on to pursue his passion of woodcarving throughout his retirement and came to be known as The Woodcarver on La Riviera Drive.

The family invites friends to St. Joseph Chapel inside of St. Mary’s Cemetery, 6700 21st Ave., on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 1:00pm for the Funeral Mass. A Celebration of life will be held honoring Thomas at the Artistic Edge Gallery located at 1880 Fulton Avenue in Sacramento on April 15, 2016 at 5:00pm.
