Newton Henry Green, of Oroville, California passed away at home on Wednesday, April 13, 2016. A celebration of life service for family and friends will be held at 5:00 p.m., Friday, May 13th at Table Mountain Golf Course in Oroville, California.  In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Oroville High School District Golf Scholarship Fund.       Newt was born September 21, 1939 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education and Master of Arts degree in English at Chapman College, and was a member of the Chapman basketball team that competed in the 1960 National Championship.  He later earned his Master’s degree in speech, at California State University Northridge. Newt is survived by his wife Karen of 44 years, his sons Mike Green, Blake Green and Jimmy Nore, his daughters Debbie Boaze and Stacie Reeson and 13 wonderful grandchildren. Newt taught at Las Plumas High School for 34 years.  During his career at Las Plumas, Newt worked with students as a teacher, director of student activities, club advisor, mentor teacher, master teacher and College Connection counselor.  In all aspects of his profession, Newt exemplified dedication, commitment and compassion constantly striving to enrich the lives of the students he taught. While at Las Plumas High School, Newt coached all levels of boys and girls basketball, and served as boys’ varsity golf coach for 12 years.  He was a passionate coach, and instilled courtesy, determination and respect in all who played for him.Newt received multiple awards throughout the years including Las Plumas High School Teacher of the Year, Oroville Rotary Club Outstanding Teacher of the Year, Sacramento Bee Global Connection Award, Association of School Administrators Citation and a California State Department of Education Certificate.  Newt was a major contributor to the community through his fundraising efforts for Table Mountain Junior Golf and the Oroville and Las Plumas Golf Teams.  He also served the Greater Oroville area as a coordinator of the Feather River Fiesta Days and as liaison for the Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Oroville Rotary Club.  Newt was a board member at Table Mountain Golf Club for nine years, and served as President in 1992. Newt spent countless hours on the golf course with his many friends, and traveled to golf tournaments throughout the region and across the country.  He enjoyed politics, reading, movies, sporting events, card games, horse racing and placing an occasional wager. Above all Newt cherished his wife Karen.  She was the love of his life, and together they built a wonderful family who are blessed with a lifetime of incredible memories.
