Elizabeth Lee Schmitt Funk, 98, passed away peacefully in her home on May 24, 2016. Elizabeth was born April 16, 1918, to Edward Poehler and Grace (Frans) Schmitt in St. Joseph, Missouri. Her family later moved to Braddyville, Iowa,and eventually settled in Somerton, Arizona. After graduating from Yuma High School in 1935, Elizabeth met the love of her life, Robert Funk, while attending Northern Arizona University. They were married on June 30, 1940, and were married for 66 years until Robert's death in 2006. Elizabeth is survived by her nephews Robert (Dianne) Schmitt of Prescott, Arizona, Mark (Judy) Schmitt of Phoenix, Arizona, Michael (Rosy) Jurasevich of San Diego, California, and nieces Judy Bouchier of Yuma, Arizona, Jeanine (Tom) Seyler of Glendale, Arizona, and Ann (Jeff) Galbraith of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her brother, John Robert Schmitt, in 2007, and by her sister, Barbara Ann Jurasevich, in 2011. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Shepard Garden and Arts Center, 3330 McKinley Blvd. in Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ASPCA.
