Priscilla J. Kraus

Priscilla Jean Krebs Kraus, "Kris" to her friends and family, departed this earth on June 26, 2016, after a long illness. She was surrounded by her family at her home in Elk Grove, California. She leaves her husband Robert Thomas "Tom"; son Robert Charles "Chuck" and daughter-in-law Dana Holliday Kraus, Emeryville, California; son Clifford James, Chico, California; and three sisters: Charlotte Krebs, Olathe, Kansas; Lillian Clarkson Edwards, Kansas City, Missouri; and Margie Clarkson Jost, Castle Rock, Colorado. A brother, William John Krebs, preceded her in death. Kris was born on November 30, 1948, the third child of George and Alice Neal Krebs of Kansas City, Missouri. George was Chief Test Pilot for the first multi-engine jet. He perished with his plane near Bakersfield, California in September 1948, just two months before Kris' birth. Alice then moved back to Kansas City and later married Charles Clarkson who was as good of a father to Kris as she could have ever had. They then had two more children, Lillian and Margie, and all of the sisters have remained extremely close. Kris enjoyed a wonderful childhood in Kansas City with a large extended family that enjoyed camping and traveling together. She was very athletic and engaged in gymnastics, golf, and synchronized swimming. She graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City, Missouri and the University of Kansas with a B.A. in Personnel. In 1972, Kris began her career in personnel at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas where she rose to be the Director of Community Relations, the first female to achieve that level. In 1980, she accepted a position as Personnel Director for Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento. Kris loved her work and was a dedicated and respected member of the Sutter family for 35 years until retiring in 2016. Her positions there included: HR Director for Support Services; HR Director for North Central Valley; Employment Risk Services Consultant; and Education Consultant, Office of the General Counsel. Kris married Tom on September 4, 1987. Marrying in their late 30s, they especially cherished their roles as parents and considered their children as their most important accomplishment and responsibility. Despite her very busy professional life, Kris could always be found at every baseball, basketball, soccer, and school event in which Chuck and Cliff participated. She was a loving Mother who encouraged her two very bright and active sons in whatever activities they tried. The family was fortunate to enjoy many wonderful trips to beautiful locations, especially to the family favorites, The Sea Ranch, California, and Kauai, Hawaii. These trips and events would find Kris, camera always in hand, happily documenting the memories. Today, we are blessed to have an entire storage locker of her photos to remind us of our wonderful lives with her. A Celebration of the Life of Kris Kraus will be held at 10:00 am on July 9, at Centennial United Methodist Church, 5401 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento 95822, and a reception will follow at the Centennial Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Sutter Care at Home Hospice in Kris' name. Memorial envelopes will be available at the Celebration of Life service, or you may make contributions at the following addresses: P.O. Box 160045, Sacramento, CA 95816
