George Ann passed away peacefully in her sleep with her husband David by her side, in Carmel, CA., on July 15, 2016 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Sacramento on May 3, 1937, George Ann Swanston Higgins was a fifth generation Sacramento native, the oldest child of Robert and Lillian Swanston. Preceded in death by her siblings Robert, Bert, Lillian and daughter Lillian. George Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years David, children Dave Jr. (Nancy), Kathleen, and Jim (Stephanie), grandchildren Alix, Madeline, Michael, Carrie, and Sydney; siblings Flaherty and Cora Belle, a plethora of nieces and nephews, and many good friends. George Ann attended Sacred Heart Parish School, Sacred Heart High School in Atherton, CA., and UC Berkeley where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was an active community volunteer, having served with the Junior League of Sacramento and the Sacramento Volunteer Center. George Ann was well known for her quick wit and love of golf, and was a generous woman that was graceful and friendly to many.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Ignatius Church, 3235 Arden Way, Sacramento, on Wednesday, July 20 at 10 am. Internment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice.
