Richard Hart Sr.
Richard (“Dick”) Harry Hart, Sr. was born in Sacramento CA on June 26, 1923, the son of Harry Henry Hart and Ula Been Hart. He was a lifetime resident of Sacramento where he was married on September 21, 1946 to Mary “Maisie” Hegewald . They were married for over 59 years, until her death at age 80 on July 4, 2006. Dick is survived by his two sons, Rick, John and his wife Joy. He is also survived by his five grandchildren including Kacey, Peter, Jennifer, Kyla, and Landon; and by his sister and sidekick, Barbara Kennedy and her family. Dick was educated at San Rafael Military Academy, Menlo College, and University of California at Berkeley. In school, he was always active in many sports and was an excellent athlete. He joined the Marine Corps on October 6, 1943 serving in the South Pacific during World War II and participated in the invasion of Palau . Dick received two Purple Hearts and spent 8 months in a naval hospital before his honorable discharge on February 4, 1946. Upon his discharge, Dick held the rank of Platoon Sergeant. After the war, Dick went to work for his father at Hart’s Restaurants, Bakeries, and Drive-Ins. Later, he founded and ran the Ram Restaurant for many years until his retirement at age 61. During his life in Sacramento, Dick was active in many civic and business organizations, groups, and clubs. He served as a president of the California Restaurant Association. He was also sworn in as foreman for the 1956 Sacramento County Grand Jury. He was also active in the Boy Scouts of America, Union Lodge 58 Scottish Rite, Bell Ali Shrine, and Royal Jesters Court 119. He was a director and past president of the Grandfathers Club, a member of Del Paso Country Club, the Sutter Club, Sacramento Rotary, the “Over the Hill Gang”, the Sunshine Boys, the 41st Street Gang, and the “O F’s”. Perhaps above all else, Dick “Rambo” enjoyed hunting ducks. He was a proud member and longtime president of the Sacramento Outing Club. He had many very enjoyable years as the duck club president and reveled in eating and sharing the ducks he shot. Dick was an early riser and always had a good story to tell. He had many friends both young and old. Dick will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Services will be private for the family at a later date.
