Eugene "Gene" Anthony Domek was born into eternal life on September 15, 2016 in Sacramento, aged 67 years. Throughout his long illness, he never lost his good humor, curious mind, or gratitude and abiding love for his family, especially his beloved wife Kathy, who survives him. He is also survived by his three children, Mary Durbrow (Paul), Andy Domek (Anna) and Patrick Domek (Stephanie), and three grandchildren, Claire, William and Edie who know him as "Poppy." Brothers Matthew and Joseph survive him as well, as do numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews who he loved very much. He was born in Chicago, Ill on January 20, 1949 to parents Joseph Andrew Domek and Mary Margaret (Bradley) Domek, who preceded him in death. He also lived in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Sacramento where he spent the majority of his youth. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Elementary School, Christian Brothers High School and St. Mary's College (1971) where he designed the concrete "SMC" on the hillside. Gene loved being a teacher. His career as an educator spanned 42 years, the last 28 spent at Roseville High School where he taught science. A devoted father, he enjoyed hiking and camping with Boy Scout Troop 1 in Sacramento, annual trips to Sea Ranch with family and friends alike, and puns. His hobbies included woodworking, sailing and especially gardening, a love of which sprouted and grew in each of his children. All are invited to a Rosary at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 24 at Sacred Heart Church at 1040 39th St., Sacramento, and a funeral beginning at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at Sacred Heart Parish School at 856 39th St., Sacramento.
