It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a truly remarkable and extraordinary person, Virginia Signorotti, who lived a fulfilling and exceptional life. When someone so unique and matchless departs this world and leaves us with the cherished memories that only Virginia could create, one can only express gratitude for the privilege of having been a part of her life.
Virginia was born on April 2, 1922 in Fariview, Montana and grew up on the Doyle family homestead on the plains of northeastern Montana in a home that did not have running water or electricity until the 1940’s. Through sheer determination she graduated from the University of Montana and then moved to San Francisco where she would live and work independently for a number of years; through friends, she met George Signorotti in 1948 and married him in 1951, a union which would last 53 years and produce eight children, all who grew up on the family hop farm in Sloughhouse. It was there where Virginia established the foundation of love, faith, education, independence and self-reliance that she instilled in all of her children and which has sustained them throughout their lives. Virginia was an ardent community supporter serving on numerous boards and committees throughout her life including the Cosumnes River Patron’s Club, the Elk Grove Historical Society, Friends of the Library, Elk Grove Book Club, the Shell Seekers and the EGUSD School Names Committee. Her boundless warmth, kindness, dignity and compassion deeply touched all of those who ever had the honor to be a part of her life; her selfless generosity and her unconditional affection will always abide in those she touched. Formidable in her convictions, resolute in her own judgment Virginia never wavered from her grounded principles and inner strength that guided her throughout her entire existence. She was the bedrock of consistency and the backbone of her family, loved and respected by all who knew her. She was, in essence, a beautiful, gentle and magnificent soul, acutely intelligent and deeply spiritual. The deep void that she leaves in our hearts will never be completely filled and the goodness and love she emanated will carry on forever in those who follow her.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband George, sons Mark and Paul, daughter Marian and is survived by her loving children Vincent, Stephen, Julia, Elizabeth and Alison, fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special debt of gratitude to Adi Bulabalavu and Siteri Kotobalavu for the loving care which they extended towards Virginia over the past two years.
