Thomas Earnest Oates
1936- 2016 Tom Oates was born in Richmond, California, on January 23, 1936, and passed away at his home in Sacramento on October 7, 2016. Tom attended the Sacramento Christian Brothers boarding school and high school. He graduated in 1955 and remained active with Christian Brothers. He was always a Brothers boy. After high school, he attended Sacramento State University and continued playing football for Coach Ray Clemons. Tom was an avid reader whose interests included sports, traveling, history, cooking, and spending time with family. Tom's strength, humor, and kind heart will be missed by all. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 51 years, Marguerite, and children: Diana, William, Andrea, and Bennett, and grandchildren: Jackson and Caroline Oates; Meko, Nina, Alex, Roger, Emra and Tuc Silva. Tom will also be dearly missed by his sisters Deann Nielsen and Gae Ford. A funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, October 14 at 10 am at St. Francis Catholic Church.
