AZ Harden, a brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather transitioned at home in Sacramento, California on November 23, 2016 at the age of 82.
In Olive Branch, Mississippi on September 28, 1934 AZ Harden was born to Amie and Haywood Harden. He was the third eldest of his eleven siblings: Alberta, Joseph Earl, Ruthie Lee, Henry Lee, Hubert Lee, Garon, Haywood Jr., Minnie Pearl, Percy, Earnest, and Regina.
As a member of a big family everyone had to do their part. AZ used to help make his family’s famous moonshine that they sold at a juke joint on his family’s property.
AZ Harden left the south and headed to Michigan where he worked for General Motors for several years. Opportunity called out west and AZ found himself in the golden state of California. When he arrived he made a good living working on farms thinning peaches and picking watermelons. A new opportunity came his way after learning the Campbell Soup plant was hiring. With AZ’s background in American manufacturing he flourished at the plant. During his prime he was Campbell Soup’s star pitcher on their baseball team.
After 33 years AZ retired from Campbell Soup. He spent the remainder of his time enjoying landscaping, working on his rental properties, playing lotto and cheering for the San Francisco Giants. Popular for his jokes and laughter, family and friends are left with a memory of AZ Harden that makes them smile. He will be deeply missed.
AZ Harden is survived by his children Brenda, AZ Jr., Sheila, Sharon, Monique, Ericka, Aaron, and Amber.
Memorial Services for AZ Harden are set for Friday, December 9, 2016 2pm at W F Gormley 2015 Capitol Ave. Sacramento, California.
