Lynnette S. Duffel

Duffel, Lynnette Suzanne Persson, 89, died peacefully in her sleep in Sacramento, California, on December 22, 2016. A native of San Francisco, Lynnette lived in Sacramento since 1966, where she and husband Bill raised four boys. Lynn was an active community volunteer, first with her sons’ athletic activities in Pony, Colt and Little League, including teaching score keeping school for the Arden Little League. She began working as a placement interviewer at the Volunteer Center and in 1987 was elected president of its board of directors. Lynn was also very active with the Assistance League of Sacramento, serving two terms as president – first in the early ‘80s and again in 2000.  She supported and volunteered with various philanthropic projects including the friendship program for senior citizens, the thrift store, vision screening in preschools to detect amblyopia, and a docent program at the old Governor’s Mansion.  Lynn was a particularly gifted grant writer and helped secure numerous grants on behalf of the Assistance League and spearheaded many local fundraisers. She was also active in the Sacramento area Bear Backers (Cal athletics), Miss Rodeo California Pageant, and the Republican Women’s Club.  Lynn was a member of Del Paso Country Club, where she hosted many bridge games. Beloved wife of William R. Duffel (deceased). Loving Mother of William  A. Duffel (deceased), Stephen R. Duffel (Sharon), David  B. Duffel (Kathi), and Joseph L. Duffel (Kathleen). Cherished Grandmother of Jeffrey A. Duffel, Stephen  M. Duffel, W. Corey Duffel (Rachel), Kevin C. Duffel, Katelynn E. Duffel, Kristen M. Duffel Nesbit (Andrew), Lauren E. Duffel, and Erin L. Duffel. Daughter of Sigfried Persson and Anita A.M. Schmuckert (both deceased). Friends and family are welcome at W.F. Gormley and Sons on December 28 from 1-5 p.m. for visitation. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 2321 St. Marks Way, Sacramento. Internment will follow at East Lawn Sierra Hills Memorial Park, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento. Memorial gifts in celebration of Lynnette Duffel may be sent to Assistance League of Sacramento, P.O.
