Carroll Judith Rice
Carroll Rice of Sacramento has lost her battle with Alzheimer's and passed away peacefully on January 24, 2017. She will be greatly missed by the friends and family who she leaves behind. She is survived by her sister, Catherine Doolin and niece Patti Doolin and their families. A lifelong seeker of knowledge and educational adventure, Carroll earned numerous university degrees at home and abroad and spent time living in far away and often exotic places like Paris and India where she worked as a script supervisor on an American film.
?Born in Honolulu in 1940, Carroll attended the University of Hawaii where she met several visiting mainlanders who became lifelong friends and shared many of her adventures. When her father, an artist, who was also born and raised in Hawaii and a member of the prominent Rice family of Hawaii, and the main illustrator for the Honolulu Rapid Transit Authority, retired he moved the family to Sacramento where he and Carroll's mother entertained extensively and Carroll loved to share stories of her travels.
Carroll was a true elegant lady with a child like spirit who loved traveling, attending Broadway and local theater to which she was a long standing member. Carroll loved music, theater and old movies, especially any Johnny Depp movie. Carroll was taught to paint on canvas and even finished several pieces after her Father passed, duplicating his style. Carroll designed, sewed and wore her creations. Carroll had a soft spot in her heart for animals, felines a favorite, to which she leaves behind her beloved feline cat, "Luigina" otherwise known as "?Lola" whom she found in a stapled bag inside a park trash can on her many daily walks to which she nursed back to full health and Lola was devoted to Carroll not wanting to leave her side.
Carroll loved attending daily mass and would walk to Mercy Hospitals Chapel where later in life, when her limbs gave out, she watched Mass via cable; if not shown she would remind you over and over to find the station. Carroll's faith in God sustained her when her body failed for she knew and would remind others that her body was only temporary and her after life was for eternity. Carroll was an example for all that knew her and will forever be in the heart of many that did.?
Carroll will be fondly remembered for her smile, her twinkling eyes, quick wit, distinct laugh and adventurous spirit by her constant companion and friend Mary MacKenzie, her "Elvis" friend Charles Hodge whom she would request he sing after her voice started failing, her lifelong friends Marshall and Mese Williams of Southern California , Dennis and Elsa Carroll of Honolulu , and Anu Carroll of New York, her many caregivers over the years and her Hospice CNM "Tiffany" who was always a ray of sunshine when she greeted Carroll and always brought a smile and twinkle to her eyes. Carroll was truly loved and always returned the love and she shall be missed by all that knew her well.
Friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 10am on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church, 1040 39th St. Sacramento.
