Robert G. Zielke

Zielke, Robert G. of Sacramento passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 10, 2017.  Preceded in death by his sister, Marge Krause and her husband George, and son Robert L. Zielke. Bob, born on 12/30/1928 to Robert T. Zielke and Margaret Kitterman is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gloria E. Zielke (Hoffman), three children, David (Lisette), Margaret Hill (Timothy), Carol Zielke, daughter-in-law Kelly Zielke, eight grandchildren Kamber McAllister (Pahl), Brock Zielke (Jessica), Kaylin Zielke, Bintu Kalenda (Bonnie), Nolly Kalenda (Ali), Jonathan (Amethyst), Nathan, and Tanya Zielke, and five great grandchildren.  Bob, a native of Chicago IL, moved to Sacramento in 1962.  He was a skilled tradesman and life-long member of the sheet metal workers union, retiring in 1988.  He was a handyman, spending many evenings and weekends helping out friends and neighbors.  A graduate of the school of hard knocks, Bob valued education, sending all 4 children to Catholic schools, encouraging them to graduate from college.  Bob was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather, filling his retirement years enjoying family gatherings, chocolate, eating out, helping family and friends, and solving the world’s problems each morning at the donut shop with the crew.  The family thanks the Kaiser staff at Morse and South Sacramento for the care they provided Bob during his 4+ year battle with cancer, particularly his last week. A visitation/viewing will be held Tuesday, March 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a 7 o’clock service at Gormley and Sons Funeral Home, 2015 Capital Ave.  A celebration of Bob’s life will take place on Friday, March 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. at College Greens Swim Club.  To help celebrate Bob’s life wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt, bring a lawn chair, and your stories to the Club.  Interment will be private.
