Wallace S. Freitag passed away in Sacramento on Aug. 11, 2017 at the age of 90. He was born at the Sacramento County Hospital on Aug 22, 1926 and remained a lifelong resident of Sacramento. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Catherine Freitag, and his younger brother Donald Freitag. He grew up in Oak Park & Mansion Flats in Sacramento on F Street near 14th Street. He attended American Legion, Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph's grade schools. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School midterm in 1944. He joined the Navy pilot program on 3-1-44 and was honorably discharged on his future wife's birthday, on 6-29-49. In his time as a Navy dive bomber pilot taking off & landing on the U.S.S. Boxer Aircraft Carrier, he met his future wife on the white sand beaches of Pensacola, Florida. They married on 7-1-51 and had three children. He went to work for Western Machinery in the 50's, Procter & Gamble in the 60's & 70's. In 1973 he then owned a contracting business with his brother for 6 years called the Kitchen Shoppe. He then ran the business as a sole proprietor until he retired at age 70 in 1996. While doing all this he built the family home (AKA The High Chaparral) in Sept 1968, and lived out his life in his beloved home until one month before his death. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Gwendolyn (Copeland), daughter Deborah J. Freitag, sons Thomas J, Freitag (Constance), and Russell A. Freitag (Susan). Also, he is survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Aug 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to St. Patrick's Academy or St. Joseph's, both grade schools his two designated charities.
