Born November 27, 1934, Shirley lived a full life until she passed away August 14, 2017. She was born in Pomona, California and moved throughout California with her parents Ruth and Harley Stauffer and sister Harlene to various construction sites where her father helped build the Hoover Dam and worked on the project that created Lake Crowley. She graduated from Fullerton College and taught school in California, Okinawa and Indiana, retiring in 1996. She was active in the Sacramento Old City Association, the Quilters Guild and St. John’s choir and sewing groups. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends frequenting museums, plays and restaurants. Shirley was compassionate toward others and had a heart for helping the homeless. She was fun loving and determined to celebrate life.
Survived by her sister Harlene McGinnis, and her children Leslie Moss, James Scholl (Karla Scholl), Valery Burns, Dawn Wessale, Sharla Heinzer (Tom Heinzer), Maggie Balise (Michael Balise), Theresa Clifton, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Carl, sons Michael and Bill, and grand daughter Kyra.
Memorial Service and reception will be Saturday, August 26 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 1701 L Street at 11 AM. There will be a private family burial.
