Joan Petesch Hamill, 84, died at home August 22nd, 2017 from complications of Parkinson's disease. She was born in Great Falls, MT, received her RN there and her BSN from USF in San Francisco. She was an instructor in the UCSF School of Nursing and while at UCSF met her husband to be, Jim, in 1956. Following his medical school graduation in 1957 they were married in her hometown of Geyser, MT. They had three children during his residency at UCSF before moving to New Jersey while he served in the USN hospital in Philadelphia. After moving to Sacramento where he began his medical practice their fourth child was born. In addition to being a full time mother to Elaine, Nicholas, Leo and Valerie, Joan was a Crocker Art Gallery docent, managed an art gallery in the I Magnin store, painted, collected art and audited classes for 10 years at Sac State. She and Jim traveled the world. She was loved by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her parents, Leo and Hazel Petesch, and by a sister, Rosemarie Petesch. She is survived by two sisters and four brothers, her husband Jim, their four children and 11 grandchildren. At her request there will be no services save a Celebration of Life at a later date.
