Gilbert John Evans, World War II veteran, passed from this life peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on September 10, 2017. He was 89 years old. Gilbert was born February 2, 1928 in Alameda, CA. He served in the Navy on the USS Wisconsin during WWII. After his brief military service he assisted his father in his missionary work. While on one of their trips to Mexico City he became acquainted with Alicia Montano and they were married in 1967. Gilbert is survived by his three sons, John, Lyle, and Ryan, his two daughters, Patricia Johnson and Jennifer Wilson, and his wife of 49 years, Alicia. Gilbert accomplished many things during his life. In addition to his missionary work he was a teacher, a fire fighter with the US Forest Service, and a land surveyor. He assisted his family with their restaurant business, briefly helped operate a skin diving shop, and opened a printing business. In his spare time Gilbert enjoyed gardening and tennis. Services will be conducted at W.F. Gormley & Sons Funeral Home in Sacramento, CA on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. The funeral address will be delivered by Pedro Moreno, his brother-in-law and former minister of the 28th Street Church of Christ in San Diego, CA.
