Robert A. Fort

Robert "Bob" was born in Sacramento, CA on February 19, 1949, and passed away on November 3, 2017 at Sutter Medical Center Sacramento with his loving wife, Stephanie Greil Fort, at his side. Bob fought, with dignity, for one year battling Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. His family is grateful that he has been released from his burden. Preceded in death by his parents Robert O. and Sibyl June Fort, and sister Sibyl Michelle Forte. He leaves his wife, Stephanie; niece, Sibyl Amber Jones Mellano of Carlsbad; half-sister, Joan Kuczma of San Jose; step-mother, Mary Ellen Fort of Sacramento, step-sisters, Ellen Meyer (Glenn Madrid) of Marfa, TX; Anne Hutchinson (Mario Sotolongo) of Jersey City, NJ; step-brother, Grant Hutchinson (Karen) of Sacramento; sisters-in-law, Glenda Bawden (Larry) of Folsom; and Candice Hershey (Jim) of Grass Valley. Bob was a loyal Boy Scout and earned his Eagle Scout award at the age of 14. Throughout his life he exemplified the spirit of the Scout Law. He attended CK McClatchy High School and studied Philosophy at Sacramento City College. Bob had a passion for cars and worked as a mechanic for Jack Cross, eventually becoming owner of HM Cross Automotive. His career interests changed which led to working for the Sacramento Bee for 15 years. Bob semi-retired from The Bee, and then worked with Stephanie at Harrold Ford until his health diagnosis forced his retirement. Bob grew up enjoying his family's cabin on the American River in Kyburz, was a devoted 49'ers fan, and loved classic rock. He and Stephanie spent vacation time attending auto races in Monterey and other locations, and enjoyed trips on cruise ships. Bob was a gentle man who befriended many, and loved his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Bob's life will be held at Trinity Cathedral, where he once served as an altar boy, on December 16, 2017 at 1:00 pm at 2600 Capitol Ave, Sacramento.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Sutter Medical Center, Sutter Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and particularly Dr. Kapil Dhawan of PMA, for their tremendous efforts and caring support throughout this last year.
