Paul F. Dauer

On January 16, 2018, Sacramento lost an internationally-recognized ceramics collector and respected public contracts attorney when Paul F. Dauer passed away peacefully at the age of 77 following a long battle with cancer.  Paul was born on April 8, 1940 in Watertown, Wisconsin.  He graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 1962, and from the University of Michigan school of law in 1965.  Following graduation, he returned to California where he and his Michigan sweetheart, Sharon Crosby, were married on August 26, 1965.  Paul worked for the State of California for 17 years, including being appointed in 1973 as the Director of the Office of Administrative Hearings by Governor Ronald Reagan, before moving into private practice where he established himself as one of the preeminent experts in state and local public contract law.  Paul was active throughout his career in the American Bar Association Section of Public Contract Law.  He also shared a lifelong love of fine art, collecting ceramics from local and international artists, enjoying photography, writing articles for art magazines, and becoming an accomplished wood-turner whose pieces were included in the Crocker Art Auction and gift shop.  His community involvement included serving on the Crocker Art Museum Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees of American River Hospital, where he was chairman for two years.  Paul is predeceased by his parents, Alice and William, and his sister Kathleen.  He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon, his daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Al, his son David and daughter-in-law Aparna, and grandson Alexander.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Crocker Art Museum at www.crockerart.org/page/tributes or to the Marilyn Neforas Scholarship Fund, ABA Fund for Justice and Education, at www.Donate.americanbar.org/Marilyn.
