After 99 years of a grace filled life, Frances Barbagelata Sexton passed from this life and entered into the loving arms of God on February 1, 2018. Born in San Francisco on October 29, 1918, she lived each day with distinct gentleness, graciousness and genuine care for the interests of others. She was an elegant role model of beauty with an endlessly generous and optimistic spirit. Born in San Francisco, CA, she was the only child of Hilda Hess and John Barbagelata, and after her father's death, became the stepdaughter of George Mathis. She graduated from St. Dominic's Grammar School and St. Rose Academy in San Francisco, and attended the University of California, Berkeley and San Francisco College for Women at Lone Mountain. In 1943, she married Peter T. Sexton of San Francisco, who preceded her in death in 2005. She was his beloved and devoted wife for 62 years. She was also the cherished mother of Kathleen Ann Pooler (John Pooler) and Karen Frances Sexton (Robert McAleese) and a beloved grandmother and great-grand-mother. She was a resident of Sacramento since 1949, and lived a life of volunteerism and service to numerous organizations, including St. Francis School, Grace Day Home and St. Patrick's Home for Children. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, and was honored for her outstanding community contributions on many occasions. Frances had a rare sense of dignity and acceptance throughout her life, including in her final days at home. She welcomed each day with a smile, and made all whom she encountered feel that they were special and loved. It has been said that she was an angel on this earth, radiating absolute grace and the ability to help all with whom she came in contact. She was an inspiration to the countless number of lives she touched. Frances joins her beloved husband, Peter, in eternal life, leaving a legacy of love and devotion to God, and a stellar example of a life beautifully and generously lived.
