Marta Ann Martinelli

Marta Ann Orsi Martinelli passed away on February 18, 2018 at the age of 85 surrounded by her family in Sacramento California. She was born in Torre del Lago, Italy and immigrated to the United States at the age of five.  Marta was raised in Ogden Utah and attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School, Ogden High School, and St. Benedict’s School of nursing where she obtained her nursing degree.    Marta loved San Francisco and moved there after nursing school.  She worked at Southern Pacific Hospital (Harkness Hospital) as Head Nurse of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and later as Head Nurse of Pediatrics at Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame.  She was a devoted, caring, and loving nurse for 37 years.  She supported many people in the hospital and her neighborhood with their transitions when dying.    She met her husband Robert J. Martinelli in San Francisco and they were married for 33 years until Robert’s death in 1988.  They lived and raised their two children (Michael and Lisa) in Millbrae, California.  Marta had a great love of animals and there were always many cats and dogs in her home.   Marta is preceded by her parents Gino and Giuseppina Orsi, her husband, Robert Jean Martinelli, and her sister, Delfa Pardini.  She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Michael and Mary Martinelli of Sacramento and daughter and son in law, Lisa and John Furr of Truckee.  Marta has six grandchildren: Danielle Martinelli, Marilyn (Maren) Christie, Joshua Furr, Lauren Martinelli, Julian Martinelli, and Ella Martinelli.  She has three great grandchildren:  Leo Horton, Genevieve Horton, Giuliana Christie, and was waiting for the arrival of her fourth great grandchild, Charlotte Furr. A Rosary Service will be held in Sacramento on Wednesday, February 28 at 6:30 at WF Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Ave.  A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 2 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Angel Church, 1721 Hillside Drive, Burlingame. Due to Marta’s love for animals the family requests that any bequests be made to your local Animal Shelter or Humane Society.
