John Quincy Brown, Jr. passed away February 3, 2018. He was born in Sacramento on February 22, 1927. He was the fourth John Quincy Brown to live in Sacramento. His great grandfather John Quincy Brown arrived in Sacramento from Kentucky in 1850. He served as Mayor of Sacramento from 1881 to 1887. His son, John Quincy Brown II, was born in Sacramento and graduated from Hastings Law School later serving as Mayor of Sacramento from 1916 to 1919. Mr. Brown's father, John Quincy Brown, Sr. (III), served as the District Attorney of Sacramento and was later appointed to the Superior Court bench by then Governor Earl Warren. Mr. Brown served as a midshipman at the California Maritime Academy during World War II, graduated from Stanford University and later McGeorge School of Law in 1958 and was a co-founder of the law firm Hardy, Erich & Brown in 1967. He also served as President of the Board of Education for Sacramento Unified School District and as a member and President of the Los Rios College Board. He was also a member of ABOTA and American College of Trial Lawyers. He was also a member of the Elks BPOENo. 6 and the Sutter Club. He married Phyllis Ross Hullin on December 21, 1947 and lost her on December 20, 1993 after 46 years of marriage. He is survived by his sons, John Quincy Brown, Philip Hullin Brown (Alicia); three grandchildren, (Nicole, Andrea and Michael); and four great grandchildren. Quincy was an accomplished sailor and pilot. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, and was a lifelong hand ball player.
