Juanita Leonor York

Nita, as she was affectionately known passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 18th at the age of 92. She was the daughter of Miguel and Leonor Reta who arrived in Sacramento from Spain in the early 1900's. Nita, along with her brother George (dec.) were born in Sacramento. She attended California Junior High and graduated from C.K. McClatchy, Class of 44. Nita completed her education at Sacramento City College where she played golf and was on the school newspaper. Nita met the love of her life Phillip, while working together at the State Personnel Board. After getting married in 1952, Nita continued her career with the State at the Employment Development Department. While working for EDD she served as a bilingual Spanish translator helping people through the unemployment claims process. Long after retirement, Nita would run into Spanish speaking people who remembered her and were still appreciative of her assistance. Juanita and Phillip were married 65 years. They loved traveling and did it often by themselves and with family. They saw Europe and the United States but their favorite trips were to see relatives in Spain. Nita is survived by her husband Phillip and children Mark (Kathy) York and Marty (Sam) Azevedo. Nita also has 3 grandchildren Eric, Ashley and Patrick.

A rosary will be recited on Sunday, March 25th 4:00 pm at W.F Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento.

A mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, March 26th, 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, 1040 39th Street.

Entombment to follow at St Mary's Cemetery, 6509 Fruitridge Road.
