Sister Mary Martin Mulroy died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 27th, 2018 at Mercy San Juan Medical Center. A native of Meelick, Swinford, County Mayo, Ireland, she is the last surviving member of a family of nine children born to the late Martin and Ellen (Kenny) Mulroy. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in Auburn in 1949 and professed final vows in 1955. Sister Mary Martin spent thirty one years as a teacher or principal in Diocesan Catholic Schools in Sacramento: Our Lady of Fatima, Holy Cross, Sacred Heart, Holy Spirit; St. Joseph, Redding, and St. Rose, Roseville. After the Second Vatican Council, she transferred her leadership skills to Parish Ministry and ministered at St. John’s Parish, Chico; Holy Spirit and Sacred Heart Parishes, Sacramento for twenty two years. During her sixty nine years as a Sister of Mercy, she touched the lived of innumerable people. Blessed with a clear vision for recognizing need, and a persuasive spirit of engaging others as coworkers, she initiated events and implemented programs to respond to needs wherever she saw them. Sister Mary Martin is predeceased by seven sisters and one brother. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, their families and her religious community. A vigil service will be held on Wednesday, April 11 at 6:00 pm at Sisters of Mercy, 535 Sacramento Street, Auburn. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Church, 1040 39th Street, Sacramento on Thursday, April 12 at 11: 00 am. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Citrus Heights.
