Tom A. Cook

Cook, Thomas A., 09/26/52 – 05/15/18

Tom’s family is devastated to announce his passing due to Stage IV Colon Cancer and Liver Disease. After receiving the terminal diagnosis, he decided to spend his final months enjoying his family, traveling, and continuing his service work. Husband to Beverly, father of Gina (Rich), Eric (Christina), Eddie (Anisa), and Amelia. Awesome Papa to Andrew, Michelle, Gracie, Lee, Leo, Alex, Layla, Aleena, and Abbey. Survived by the mother of his children, Sharen. Brother to Jim (Christine), John (Brenda), David (Anna), Chris, Tommy H. (Barbara), Lester H., Hugh H., Bill H. (Charlotte), Karen G., and Tom G. Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his grandson Cole, brothers John G. and Bobby H., and sister Louella H. Tom had achieved 31 years of sobriety as a member of AA; giving him back his family and friends, spirituality, pride, and sense of purpose; which was the core of his being. The fellowship, support, and friendship of these brothers and sisters fueled his passion to help others. Thank you all!  He worked as a Teamster for 34 years driving for United Grocers, Fleming Foods, and C & S. This was a perfect job for a man who loved to be on the road meeting new people, seeing new places, and experiencing new things.  Family was the most important thing to Tom; and you didn’t have to be related to be considered part of his family. He worked so hard to become the husband, father, and grandfather his family deserved.  Tom was obsessed with his movies, the Raiders,  drove us crazy with his bad jokes, enjoyed attending theatre and concerts, never turned down a good meal, and loved to travel.  In his honor please take that trip with the ones you love, try that food that you weren’t going to try, attend a play or concert when you get a chance, and laugh, hug, and cry when you need to. Make the memories that will sustain you.  We love you and will miss you ALWAYS. Celebration of Life to be held, Monday, May 21st, 2018 at 3:00pm at W.F. Gormley and Sons, 2015 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95811. Reception to follow at Clunie Community Center at McKinley Park, 601 Alhambra Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95816 from 5:00pm – 7:30pm.
