In Sacramento, on July 21st, 2018, Marilyn C. Evans, beloved wife of the late Dr. Tom Evans, for 39 years. Loving mother of Elizabeth Courtney, Robert Evans, and Richard Evans. Cherished grandmother of Trevor and Garrett Evans, Gillian, Emma, and Isabel Courtney. A native of Spokane, Washington, she enjoyed many years backpacking and mountaineering in the Pacific Northwest with her husband prior to starting a family. A resident of Sacramento since 1968, Marilyn was a registered nurse who spent her time raising her loving family while serving as a community advocate dedicated to preserving and creating open spaces where all could enjoy nature. Marilyn was known as “the Mother of Parks” after leading efforts to purchase property for Ashton Park, and helping create the Mission Oaks Recreation and Park District. While serving two terms as Chairman she played a key role in the acquisition and development of many parks and recreation areas in and around Sacramento. Marilyn was an avid tennis player and the friendship made on the courts extended well beyond.
