Joan M. Hensley, 96, passed away peaceably on July 10, 2018 in Carmichael, CA where she had lived since 2011. She was born on September 23, 1921 in Loudonville, Ohio and lived in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio for most of her life. During World War II, she proudly served her country in the U. S. Coast Guard (WR) in New York City. She worked part time for many years at the Summit County Board of Elections and volunteered for Friends of Cuyahoga Falls Library book sales. She enjoyed reading, completing crossword puzzles and spending time with family and friends. Joan is survived by her daughters Pat Oddi (Leo) of Fredericksburg, VA and Jill (Gary) Leopold of Carmichael, CA; grandchildren Samantha and Gina Oddi, Jennifer and Jonathan Leopold, and sister Nancy Morgan Ottsman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Charles "Chuck"; sister Elizabeth "Betty" Baker; and parents Charlie and Pearl Dennis Kaufman.
A private military service with honors will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Cuyahoga Falls Firefighters and Community Benevolent Society, Inc., 1924 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221 or a charity of your choice
