Esther Bunney

Esther passed peacefully in her sleep on October 19, 2018 at the age of 104. Born on April 11, 1914 and raised in Santa Cruz, she graduated from Santa Cruz High School and Mills College and moved to Fairfield where her husband, Dr. Gordon Bunney, founded the town’s first hospital. Esther later settled in Sacramento where she raised her family. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine and Lester Wessendorf, sister, Sybil Thal, husband Dr. Gordon Bunney, son Bryant Bunney and daughter Nadine Gallegos.  She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Johnson, five grandchildren, Tresha Gallegos Young, Camille Benvenuti, Brian Gallegos, Bryte Johnson (Joy), Brad Gallegos (Chrissie) and seven great grandchildren. Esther loved being a grandmother, adoring her grandchildren as well as her great-grandchildren and was completely involved and influential in their lives.  Esther enjoyed traveling, across the country and around the world. She was a voracious reader, loved movies and the theater and was a beloved baker. She took great pride in her knitting and loved to entertain. She drove until she was 99, liked to gamble and particularly delighted in being the librarian at Rivers Edge. Esther was a long-time member of the Sutter Club and a 69-year member of Del Paso Country Club, where she often played golf with friends and cherished her favorite meal of the day-dessert.
At her request no public services are planned.
