Sister Mary Raphael Doyle died peacefully at Our Lady of Mercy Convent Auburn on November 2, 2018. A native of Meelick, County Mayo, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Winifred Doyle. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1949 and professed final vows in 1955. She completed her undergraduate studies and received her teaching credential from Dominican College. She spent over twenty years in Catholic education as an elementary school teacher and principal in the Sacramento, Roseville, Redding and Anderson areas. She also served as Director of Novices for the community. Blessed with a special gift for hospitality, she was a gracious host, welcoming all who visited the Motherhouse campus in Auburn for over twenty five years. In 1990, she transitioned to Mercy Hospital Folsom and for nine years was the face of mercy, welcoming patients, families, and staff in her role at the information desk. Due to declining health she moved to Mercy Retirement Center Auburn in 2016. She was predeceased by her brothers Patrick and John and is survived by her sister-in-law, Anne, nephew, nieces and their families, and her religious community.
A vigil service will be held on Thursday, November 8, at 6:30 pm.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 9 at 10:00 am.
Both services will be at Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, 535 Sacramento Street, Auburn.
