November 27, 2018 Joan Patricia (McMahon) Covington, 82, passed away peacefully on November 27th at home from complications of a long battle with Alzheimer's. Joan was born to an Irish immigrant, Francis McMahon, and her mother, Frances Silva, and became a lifelong resident of Sacramento. Joan is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles Covington; her three daughters, Sharon, Janet and Diane; and her beloved relatives in Ireland. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her grandmother, Clara Silva. Joan attended Immaculate Conception School and St. Francis High School. She was a longtime parishioner at St. Charles Borromeo. She taught Irish dancing, worked for the Sacramento City Unified School District, and loved to travel, especially to Ireland. Joan was very well liked by all who met her, she lived a simple life, yet her positive and uplifting demeanor made everyone feel welcome. She loved her grand dogs and enjoyed helping with foster dogs and preparing newsletters from Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue.
The rosary will be held at W.F. Gormley & Sons Funeral Home at 3pm on Sunday, December 2nd.
The funeral mass will be Monday, December 3rd at 11am at Immaculate Conception with internment following at St. Mary's Cemetery.
