Born on November 12, 1920 in Stockton, California and raised in Reno, Nevada by her parents, Caroline (Schon) and Joseph Julian, June passed away Friday, January 4, 2019 at her home in Sacramento, CA. She graduated from Reno High School and attended three years at University of Nevada, Reno, before transferring to University of Oregon Multnomah School of Nursing and receiving her Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Nevada. Following graduation, she enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and served as a nurse in Hawaii and Saipan; she was scheduled for transfer to Okinawa when the war ended. She married Dana George Pengilly in Reno, Nevada on January 8, 1946. They had four children: Rita Karmel, Dana Joseph, Douglas Paul (Jean Dickson), and Donald John (Karen Webb). She was preceded in death by her parents, brother (Joseph Julian, Jr.), son (Dana Joseph) and her husband. She is survived by her daughter, two sons, two grandsons (Grady and Ry Pengilly) and one great granddaughter, Ella June Pengilly. June participated with her husband in the senior collegiate program at Sacramento City College and volunteered for many years at Loaves and Fishes and the Sacramento Food Bank. They traveled extensively in Europe, Australia, Asia and the South Pacific. The family would like to thank June's long term caregivers: LaTonya Groce, Jane Suliafu, Florence Macharia, Velma Savage, Vee Williamson, and Balbina Osorio. The family would also like to thank Sutter Care at Home hospice program. Funeral mass and burial will be private. Friends are invited to a memorial mass which will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Parish Church on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11am.
